GIANT GREEN ANEMONE (fence)
"Artist Felice Grodin applied her interest in biophilic design to the transportation infrastructure of the Douglas Road Metrorail Station, with different transit modalities and velocities overlapping and intersecting. Both synthetic and organic in its composition, the effect is also three dimensional, with articulated depths revealing and hiding complex patterns that change in perception as a viewer walks, rides, or drives by. The colors of the work – deep blue and neon green accentuate the motion. The Giant Green Anemone, from which the artwork takes its name and colors, usually nests in 'high energy locations, including surf-swept shores, surge channels, and tide pools'.” -Amanda Sanfilippo Long, Curator, Art in Public Places Program (Miami, FL)

ÁRBOL CÓSMICO / COSMIC TREE
Senator Villas Apartments in Miami, Florida, was a new affordable-housing development for older adults. Commissioned by Art in Public Places, I created three distinct but related artworks for the building. At the center was the tree, which explores time: trees take root over time, connecting beneath the ground while reaching toward the sky. This inspired my cosmic tree and the idea that, according to medieval calculations, one cosmic year equaled 15,000 solar years, “It is complicated when all the stars find their way back to a particular place.” Using 3D modeling and fabrication, I created cloud-like forms at the top of the tree to frame the cosmos—the sky. This was my first Art in Public Places commission, and I deeply appreciated the opportunity to create work on such a large and meaningful scale.

The murals are two of (3) completed artworks at Senator Villas, and elderly affordable housing community. Some reflections about the murals : I think love is liquid. It can slip between your fingers. Though your lifelines will trace it on your hands as it flows. The palms of each hand are the architecture of an embrace.
