felice grodin

Felice Grodin (b. 1969) in Bologna, Italy and lives and works in Miami Beach, Florida. Grodin received a Bachelor of Architecture from Tulane University (1992) and a Master of Architecture with Distinction from Harvard University (1997). Her speculative drawing practice invites the viewer to mediate on transformative spaces and environments – both lived and imagined.

philosophy

I explore the gap between knowledge and reality as science and technology reshape our understanding of both. Developments such as high-speed algorithmic exchanges of information and value, along with the manipulation of organic and synthetic matter at microscopic scales, exceed the limits of human perception and unsettle established boundaries and meanings. Through drawing, I approach these shifts speculatively. This inquiry grows from my architectural training, where concepts of time and space have always begun with drawing.

Additionally, from living in cities marked by instability: earthquake-prone San Francisco, hurricane-season in Miami, New Orleans with its weakened levees, Venice and its rising lagoon, and finally, New York during 9/11. These experiences have shaped my view of the spaces we inhabit: simultaneously global, territorial, and deeply vulnerable.
